WeCare sustainability

WeCare & Our Environmental and Social Responsibility

We continuously work to develop our environmental and social responsibility, striving to choose solutions that take both people and nature into account. As part of Nordic Hotels & Resorts and Strawberry, we are proud to contribute to the group-wide initiative WeCare.

Through WeCare, we focus on diversity and inclusion among our employees, ethical standards in our supply chain, community engagement, as well as measures to reduce our environmental impact and provide healthier ingredients. We also participate in Hållbarhetsklivet, an initiative in Western Sweden bringing the tourism industry together around concrete actions for more long-term and responsible tourism.

How you can contribute as a guest

  • Recycle: Avoid throwing glass, metal cans, and plastic bottles in the waste bin. Instead, leave them clearly visible on the desk, and we will ensure they are sorted and recycled properly.
  • Towels: Please hang up your towel if you wish to use it again. That way, we know it does not need to be replaced.
  • Save energy: Turn off the lights when leaving the room, close windows and balcony doors when you go out, and unplug mobile and computer chargers once fully charged.
  • Tailored housekeeping: Notify reception the day before if you would like housekeeping during your stay. By skipping daily cleaning, together we help save water, energy, and cleaning products.

Our sustainability initiatives

We actively work to reduce our energy consumption and make resource-conscious choices – all the way from how we heat our rooms to what we serve on the plate.

Energy and resources

  • We heat the entire hotel and all pools using seawater heating, a natural and local energy source.
  • All the electricity we purchase is certified electricity from fossil-free sources.
  • When replacing lighting, we select energy-efficient LED bulbs.
  • To limit the volume of laundry, spa guests collect their bathrobe and towel in the Spa Shop.

Food and drinks

We prioritize local producers and ingredients.

We weigh our food waste and share the results internally to reduce food waste.

  • We prioritize natural wines as well as organic, biodynamic, and Fairtrade-certified wines in our selection.
  • The majority of our beer selection is organic, supplied by Carlsberg, and transported by tanker truck to reduce the number of shipments.
  • Our coffee is Fairtrade-certified to support good working conditions for producers.
  • Most of the dairy products we use are organic, and we always serve organic eggs

Waste and materials

  • We sort waste such as hard plastics, metal, glass, office paper, food waste, porcelain, and general waste.
  • We are phasing out single-use plastics in favor of reusable solutions and natural materials.
  • We register hazardous liquids at the hotel and handle them in accordance with current environmental recommendations.
  • We encourage our employees to use public transport or carpool to meetings.
  • We actively participate in local beach cleanups to care for the sea and coastline.

Good neighbor – Clean sea

At Strömstad Spa & Resort, we are proud to be the initiators of God granne – Rent hav (Good Neighbor – Clean Ocean), a project highlighting collaboration, care, and responsibility along the coast. We believe good things happen when people, nature, and local businesses meet with a shared goal of caring for the area we share.

Through this initiative, we collaborate with local partners, organize beach cleanups, support concrete local marine environment efforts, and host activities that foster community and care for the local environment. Our ambition is to create small yet meaningful ripples for people, nature, and future generations.

Collaboration

Together we can make a difference

We create lasting change together. Through collaboration with local and regional partners, we aim to contribute to a more caring and responsible community – both in Strömstad and throughout Western Sweden.

We are part of Hållbarhetsklivet

Hållbarhetsklivet is Western Sweden's collective initiative for responsible and long-term tourism. Here, public and private actors collaborate to transition operations and create tourism that benefits both residents and visitors.

Lonely Christmas Tree

Lonely Christmas Tree is a project in collaboration with local organizations, where we collect Christmas presents for families and children who need a little extra support during the holiday season.
